Carol Grey, original creator of Social Stories
In the 1990s, Carol Grey was working in a public school, and sought out effective, child-friendly strategies for supporting her students with Autism. She created Social Stories as a tool for these children to understand a social situation, and develop strategies to bolster their responses. Social Stories are always designed to be strengths-based, respectful, and supportive of the child and their unique situation.
My Story is built on this work started by Grey in the 90s. The social stories I write can be used for children of all ages, with or without disabilities, on an individual or group basis. And just like Grey modeled, they are written with the goal of helping each child further understand what is going on around them, validating their experience, and providing tools for growth.

Multiple research studies have concluded that social stories are effective in improving targeted communication and social skills in children with Autism. (See this article and this article.) Evidence also suggests that social stories can target challenging behaviors and promote pro-social behaviors. (See this article.)
I have been using social stories for over a decade. I have observed these benefits from children with and without special needs:
Decrease in anxiety and confusion
Increase in prosocial behaviors
Increased confidence in solving social problems
Shared language between children and caregivers
Improved interest in books and pre-literacy skills
